Wilkes Street Tunnel Proposal | Kyle + Michelle | Virginia Wedding Photographer

This is not only an incredible proposal, but a really fun story as well! Believe it or not, Kyle is actually our realtor! Kyle was referred to us, when we were looking to purchase our first home, by our cousin, who also happens to be his best friend! Chad and I knew immediately that Kyle would be a great fit for us, not only was he down to earth and really on top of it, he also made our home buying process incredibly easy! We started looking in October 2018, and had a contract down by December, and moved in by January!

During the whole process, Kyle and I chatted about my job, and his girlfriend, and I told him that once he was ready to pop the question, he HAD to call me! And boy am I SO glad he did! After a few weeks of planning out the photography aspect, we narrowed down the perfect date and time so that Michelle had ZERO clue of what was about to happen! Kyle fell in love with the Wilkes Street Tunnel in Old Town Alexandria, as Alexandria was a place him and Michelle visited frequently. After one scouting trip, he knew right away that that would be the perfect spot for him to pop the question.

Fast forward to the big day!

After a corporate party for his company, he and Michelle shared a quiet dinner in Old Town, all the while, Michelle thought they were headed to a concert on the water after. He even had the waitress in on it, perfectly timing the orders so they’d get their checks right at 6:30 pm! After dinner, they planned to walk through this tunnel that Kyle kept telling Michelle about, and upon further planning, he realized that that tunnel was wildly popular, and tourists and pedestrians often road through (quickly!) on bikes and Birds without a care in the world!  He knew that wasn’t going to fly during his carefully planned moment. He then had my cousin-in-law (that same best friend) stand in the middle of the tunnel, blocking any and all Bird riders and avid cyclists from ruining the moment! And not only that, he had him play their song while they walked up to the tunnel! (Queue the tears!) Michelle had NO idea what hit her! It took her a moment to realize what was happening, and once she figured it out, she started crying all those happy tears! Meanwhile, I’m stealthily perched above the tunnel capturing the whole thing!

Her happiness was seriously contagious! After the proposal, we took a few quick portraits together celebrating their next big adventure, and they both were ALL kinds of giddy! I barely had to direct them on anything – they were just so wrapped up in the excitement of it all, and I just let them live it! It was so, so sweet for Kyle to allow me to share such a milestone moment with them, and I am so honored I got to be a part of it!

Cheers to your next adventure, you two! It goes by so fast, so enjoy being engaged as long as possible!
