Oh man, you guys, there are SO many things about Darcy + Kody’s Oaks Waterfront wedding that I am obsessed with! But we have to start from the beginning right? Let’s talk about my love for this girl first. A little over a year ago, Darcy messaged me on Facebook idly “requesting a quote,” which I had NO idea this option even existed on Facebook pages, so clearly I never received this request. As I was aimlessly scrolling through Facebook one day, I stumbled upon this random hidden folder, which happened to be the “Request a Quote” section. I immediately saw Darcy’s inquiry and panicked, noticing the “1 month ago” time stamp.

I messaged her back right away, knowing I had most likely lost that lead since I took WAY to long to respond. But lo-and-behold, she still wanted to take a chance on me! So we met up, and instantly bonded over Matchbox pesto pizza and french fries. During our meeting we talked about her family, her sisters, and of course, Kody. You see, what she didn’t know and what I knew deep in my bones, was Darcy was my very first ideal client I ever booked. She was exactly what I wanted in a Sarandipity Bride, and more. She was detail oriented, seriously fun, crazy smart, incredibly kind, and so, so in love. That was EVERYTHING to me, and you best believe I shot out of my chair when she emailed me that sweet, sweet, “we’re ready to move forward” email.

The Engagement

Fast forward a few months, and these two casually walked down the Jefferson Memorial sidewalk, hand in hand, maid of honor and puppies in tow. I just about died when I saw their outfits, perfectly matching my style guide’s recommendations. Not to mention, dying again when they started posing for me, and were completely comfortable in front of the camera from the very first minute! I we can’t forget their puppies, who stole the show with their adorable wooden signs, and sweet personalities. After that, I seriously couldn’t wait to share their wedding with them!

The Wedding

After what felt like YEARS, it was finally their wedding day! A day we had all been anticipating for months on end, and from all the details we chatted about (again, over Matchbox pizza and fries) I knew it was going to be amazing. And, you best believe it absolutely was!

From the moment I knocked on the door, I was immediately scooped into a hug by Darcy, and instantly greeted by each and every one of her 9 bridesmaids!

She then proceeded to show me all of her details for the day, and they were all SO stunning! From her bridesmaid’s Kate Spade earrings, to her gorgeous florals and stunning invitation suite, everything was literally picture perfect. And to top it off, her gorgeous Bridals by Elena ball gown fit her like a dream! She looked like an actual princess surrounded by her best girls in neutral beaded BHLDN gowns.

Not only did she share an emotional first look with her dad, but she also opted to share one with her bridesmaids! They had absolutely no idea what her dress looked like, and this has quickly become one of my very favorite events to photograph! It’s not every day your favorite people get to see you as a princess, and all of the heightened emotions surrounding this moment make for some seriously amazing, and heartfelt images!

Even though these two did not share a first look, we added enough time into the day to complete all of their bridal party and family portraits, separately! That way we can easily jump into full group shots, and have ample time for portraits after the ceremony!

Which segways me into THE CEREMONY! OH. EM. GEE. Now, I love first looks – don’t get me wrong, but I have never had a groom SO emotional at the alter! Usually it’s too much, and too many people staring, expecting you to cry, that they just can’t get it out, BUT NOT KODY. This was, hands down, my favorite processional to date. You could literally feel the love oozing off of Kody as Darcy made her way down the aisle with her dad. The way he looked at her was enough to bring even the toughest soul to tears. The ceremony, though short and sweet, was filled with so much emotion, so much love, and so much mutual understanding of how momentous this day was for everyone – it was absolutely perfect.

After they shared their first kiss, we rolled right into their portraits, graced with gorgeous golden-hour glow. Then came the party! AND THESE TWO KNOW HOW TO PARTY! I could tell the moment the reception started, that this was the most cherished part of their wedding. Watching Darcy make her way to every single one of her guests to share her love with them, and Kody living it up on the dance floor, was MY favorite part of the wedding! Their live band absolutely slayed the party, and knew exactly how to keep the crowed going! Live bands have quickly become one of my favorite additions to any wedding – it just has a completely different, concert-type atmosphere that I am totally in love with! Towards the end of the night, these two even had late night snack of mini burgers and french fries floating around the reception, I mean how much more perfect could these two humans be?!

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. For letting me share this day with you two. It will be one I cherish forever!

XOXO,
Sara
